Loci is a collection of tables and benches designed to showcase locally grown timber mixed with innovative manufacturing techniques that result in a product packed with features and sustainable advantages.
From forest to furniture, the entire Loci product line is produced within 200 miles of our client’s factory. This local sourcing helps to dramatically reduce the carbon footprint of the product and helps support local workers. The solid red oak construction is built to last a lifetime and because it doesn’t have laminates or veneers the pieces can be refinished time and time again.
The concept is to make a product that is visually simple to showcase the local materials and craftsmanship all without sacrificing function. By using an innovative manufacturing process, we can use solid wood planks to fabricate hollow boxes. These hollow boxes provide ample space and easy pathways for cables. Cables and power units can be completely hidden inside the pieces.
Loci is designed as a system of parts that can be reconfigured in various ways. On a single table you can choose different leg positions to create three different configurations: waterfall, overhang on one side, or overhang on both sides. Loci also features a ganging leg that creates long runs of tables in any number of lengths.
To bring something truly unique to the wood we developed a series of custom formulated stains in a variety of colors. We wanted to go beyond traditional brown stains and offer colors like blue and green so people who may want something more colorful can still enjoy the look of the local red oak. Wrapped in a satin finish clearcoat we worked hard with local finishers to perfect a process that preserves the natural wood grain texture while still being highly durable.
Loci is a great example of looking at locally available resources and thinking creatively about them. It blends sustainable forestry with the latest in wood panel fabrication technology to create a product that is beautiful and understated.
